Topic 4: Comments: Parks and open space
- Always up for improving the parks.
- MUST keep all park/boulevard/open spaces clean and free from litter and dead animals. More dog parks, please.
- I support Goal 6 only if residents of that block also approve it. Compensate the owners losing access.
- I basically like the parks the way they are and oppose cluttering them with more "play structures" and "adult exercise equipment." Keep the plants healthy and more garden areas, do maintenance, finish Yahara plan, keep present facilities in good repair.
- Kayakers and canoers use this street to launch their boats. DO NOT REMOVE IT! (Goal 6)
- Protect Yahara River Parkway in North Thorton Avenue and from encroachment of industrial uses and businesses.
- The Marston bridge in Tenney Park is in desperate need of restoration.
- Great place to drop off picnic supplies, blankets, chairs, etc., and then drive back to street for parking (Goal 6).
- Wouldn't #6 further worsen the traffic from Baldwin to Brearly on Gorham? Oh, wait, nevermind--my mistake! A fenced dog park in the neighborhood would be a great convenience.
- Let dogs into the parks. I'm not a dog owner, but this is a silly ordinance.
- I am supportive of Goal 5 because I like the idea of a branch library or historical museum.
- Add support central park plans in East Rail Corridor Plans and support use of TIF for Central Park as proposed by the mayor.
- Leave the poor parks alone. Let 'mother-nature' upgrade them.
- Should be able to launch canoe at Brearly Street.
- For Goal 5, I would need to hear more.
- Keep Tenney ice shelter open for whole month of February and sharpen skates there.
- Build performance space in Tenney Park near shelter for outdoor performers.
- How does Burr Jones field fit in? Some of that should be developed--park-and-ride/train station activities. Preserve field and river.
- Tearing up Brearly Street will never work unless some way to establish access to the lake for lake rescue of the Fire Dept.--must be happy with any plan!
- As long as we can park in the church lot to go sledding (Goal 6).
- As long as Sherman to Brearly remains open. Speed bumps around Tenney.
- Goal 6, lobby church to release some of its parking lot to the park.
- Goal 3, passive and active need to be defined. By active, if you mean bicycle and canoe usage, I would be very supportive. If you mean snowmobile usage, I would be extremely opposed.
- Are you going to pay for this?
- Goal 5, what buildings are you referring to?
- Why waste the money?
- Include James Madison Park in the plan.
- Eliminate weedy vines that obstruct the view from East Johnson Street. We're told that would offend people on Marston. Why? They have no weed-filled park view.
- Why is not more effort put into diversity of trees, planting, maintenance of parks--lots of invasive and lolly-pop trees now.
- Very good ideas!
- Goal 5--transfer ownership to whom? Does a reverse of the deferred maintenance mean 'fix' them up?
- 640 and 646 taken down or moved and expanded park.
- Preserve the historic bathroom structure in Tenney Park at Marston/Sherman. Perhaps reuse as concession stand run by private vendor. Coffee, ice cream, rent toy boats, fishing equipment, bait, sunscreen, etc.
- While the idea of a museum/historical society sounds good. Do you really think people will use such a thing? Where would people park? Why take away beautiful housing? Supportive of goal 6, but you MUST consider where you can supplement parking.
- Require gardens, green roofs, drainage, and 'day-lighted' storm-sewers for all new developments, including in parks. Ensure that all waterways are bounded by a deep-rooted riparian buffers--at the end of over-engineered look of shorelines.
