Topic 5: Housing and infrastructure
- Enforce EXISTING codes!
- I get harassed by the city enough as it is. At least if they look at everyone's house, maybe I will get a year free of neighbors calling the city on me. Worry about your own properties!
- For exterior (related to Goal 1)--needs to be related to facility deterioration, cars in yards, code violations. Not minor issues, like peeling paint on a step or crack in the sidewalk.
- Conduct porch safety inspections!
- I think spending money on fancy streetlights is nonsense.
- The last time they did an inspection sweep, they required me to do a lot of stuff to my property that was a huge waste. I had to put a new roof on a garage I tore down two or three years later. You'll be sorry many times over if you push this.
- Unfortunately, utilities were not buried in 1300 and 1400 blocks of East Dayton when total utilities roadway was being replaced.
- City restricts fixtures already (Goal 3). "Vintage" fixtures lit up the sky on purpose. "Neo-Victorian" might be a better form.
- Vintage lights may be a waste of resources, but the dark sky street lamps are very important for energy conservation (not wasting energy by sending light where it isn't being used) and night sky preservation.
- Very supportive of city inspection for the exterior of homes (Goal 1), but not supportive of inspection for the interior.
- Don't know enough about Goal 1 (don't understand the issue).
- Increase inspections of rentals, not single family.
- Use inspector's time on rental properties, not single-family. The single-family folks tend to maintain their homes. There aren't enough inspectors to handle Madison's rentals, as evidenced by driving around downtown.
- Make sure the street lamps are very bright.
- Pursue better upkeep of sidewalks, especially noted Blair, Dayton, and Mifflin. Pursue better upkeep and trash removal of curb areas, especially problematic downtown.
- Goal #3 would be delightful. I'll believe it when I see it!
- We're going to have problems if you self-appointed 'neighborhood activists' constitute yourselves as vigiliantes.
- Goal 2, I dislike having block spies.
- Increase fines so Goal 1 can be supported and pay for additional inspectors.
- Love Goal 4!
- Big Brother is watching you!
- Yes to Goal 3, our neighborhood is too dark (especially Sherman Terrace).
- Goal 1, only on tenant's request.
- Invasion of right to privacy--fascist.
- Goal 3, these lights must be chosen carefully, often a fake victorian lamp or from some other period is chosen that does not fit the neighborhood character.
- Like the idea of upgrading buildings. Energy efficiency is important as it saves owners and renters money they can spend in our neighborhood rather than on utility bills.
- How many neighbor wars do you want to start?
- The city is doing an adequate job and this needs to remain the duty of the city.
- Need more information on what is the cost? How is it maintained and repaired?
- I support development of additional housing units, but new development often over-emphasize parking (parking should be minimized).
- When any new housing goes in, whether single family or large apartments (on East Washington), parking provided should reflect the area's current parking ratios (less than one per unit). It also adds to the cost/affordability burden!
- Goal 2 is Big Brotherish.
